Mary Martha Kennedy Recognized as USRowing Selection Camp Invitee

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State rowing student-athlete Mary Martha Kennedy was named by USRowing as an invitee to the 2020 U23 Selection Camp, announced Wednesday. The camp was originally slated to take place this summer in Iowa City, Iowa.
"Mary Martha's hard work and dedication to the sport has been recognized with the honor of being named to the USRowing Under 23 Selection Camp," MSU rowing head coach Kim Chavers said. "While the pandemic may have paused the international racing schedule, I'm confident Mary Martha will represent the Spartans well. I look forward to following her development and journey this summer in the U23 Program."
While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the cancellation of this year's international racing schedule, USRowing recognized 46 student-athletes who were selected to participate in the 2020 Under 23 Men's and Women's National Team Selection Camps this summer.
"While understandably the pandemic has put a halt to the 2020 international racing schedule, USRowing wants to recognize those athletes who have earned invitations to our 2020 Under 23 National Team selection camps," said Matt Imes, USRowing High Performance Director. "While these athletes won't get the opportunity to represent the U.S. this summer, they make up an incredibly important part of our national team development program. We congratulate each of them on being selected for the camps and look forward to many of them representing Team USA in the future."
A senior from Mount Vision, N.Y., Kennedy is a letterwinner who was named Academic All-Big Ten in 2019 and competed in the varsity eight boat for five events during the spring season. Kennedy competed in the second varsity eight boat at the Big Ten Championships and helped lead her boat to a fifth-place finish with a time of 6:42.497. An animal science major, Kennedy had a season-best time of 6:29.17 in the finals of the Lake Wheeler Invitational on April 27.Â
