Former Spartans Abby Barker and Stephanie Machak Working on the Frontlines

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State field hockey alumnae Abby Barker and Stephanie Yuhasz Machak are currently serving on the frontlines during this coronavirus pandemic. Barker, who competed for the Spartans from 2011-14, currently works at a large hospital system in central Ohio as a physician assistant. Her job includes evaluating for, managing, treating, and diagnosing medical conditions for patients that come into the emergency room in collaboration with a physician. During this pandemic, Barker's job includes evaluating patients with suspected COVID-19, diagnosing patients with COVID-19, as well as evaluating patients that have known COVID-19 infection. Barker finished her collegiate career fourth all-time at Michigan State in both goals (59) and points (136). Including being named to the All-West Region and All-Big Ten first teams and was a Second Team All-American during her four years as a Spartan. Machak competed for the Spartans from 2002-07. She received her undergraduate degree in nursing and health studies from Michigan State and a Master of Science in nurse anesthesia. She currently works at the University of Michigan Mott Children's hospital as a CRNA. Â
