Lewis is the first Spartan since 2015 to earn All-Big Ten accolades.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State junior Mary Lewis was named to the women's tennis All-Big Ten team for the 2019-20 season, as announced by the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday.
Lewis is the first Spartan to earn All-Big Ten honors since Erin Faulkner received the honor in 2015. She is just the 11th women's tennis player to earn the distinction in program history.

A native of Bellflower, California, Lewis made an immediate impact on the Spartans since transferring to Michigan State from Arizona.
In the fall, Lewis boasted a near perfect record of 10-1 in singles. A highlight of Lewis' fall campaign was an upset victory over the No. 2-seed in main draw singles of the ITA Midwest Regionals in October.
After being one of the last remaining eight players in the qualifying singles bracket, Lewis qualified for the main draw and was the last Spartan standing in the tournament as she completed a thrilling three-set upset of the No. 2-seed in the bracket and No. 26 nationally ranked Chaira Lommer of Michigan.
During the shortened spring season, Lewis competed at the No. 1 position in singles with a record of 6-5 and was a steady part of the doubles lineup.
Lewis was recently named the ITA Midwest Region Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award recipient for exhibiting outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.
Senior Sammie Memije was named Michigan State's Sportsmanship Honoree. The student-athletes chosen for the award are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
