Spartans post program-record 3.61 cumulative GPA.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State baseball was recognized with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award for the fourth-consecutive year.
Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with the award, which recognizes teams coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2019-20 academic year. A record 434 college and high school programs submitted nominations and received this year's award. In total, 146 high school teams along with 288 programs from the NCAA Div. I, II, III, NAIA, and Junior College levels were recognized.
"Once again, we're extremely appreciative of Melissa Tallant and everyone in the SASS office for all of their outstanding work in everything they do for Michigan State baseball," MSU head coach Jake Boss Jr. said. "I am just extremely proud of our guys taking an extremely difficult situation and making the best of it by handling their business in the classroom."
After being the only Big Ten team on the Division I list for the last two years, Michigan State was joined by Illinois and Ohio State this season on the 68-team Division I list.
"The resiliency of this group of baseball players is unmatched. Despite their season ending early and classes moving online for the remainder of the semester, they still managed to achieve the highest GPA in team history. I am so proud of them and to work with such a supportive coaching staff," said Tallant, MSU's SASS Assistant Director.
Michigan State had a program-record 3.61 cumulative GPA this year.
