
Four Spartans Compete in GCAA Fall Amateur Series in Frankenmuth

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Four Michigan State women's golfers competed in the GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America) Fall Amateur Series on Monday-Tuesday (Sept. 28-29) at The Fortress Golf Course in Frankenmuth, Michigan. The tournament featured both men and women collegiate golfers.
Valentina Rossi, a freshman from Rosario, Argentina, led the way for the Spartans in the tournament, tying for sixth place with a 1-under-par 215 (71-73-71). Rossi moved up two spots in the final round after tallying six birdies, including three in the final four holes.
Senior Yurika Tanida tied for 12th place at 4-over-par 220 (73-74-73), while junior Sydney Naro tied for 21st at 8-over 224 (76-76-72). Freshman Leila Raines tied for 27th while shooting 11-over-par 227 (76-78-73).
During the summer, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced the launch of the GCAA Amateur Series powered by Golfstat, a series of amateur tournaments played from August through November of 2020. The tournaments are two-day events played across the country and are eligible to men's and women's collegiate golfers who were on a varsity roster in 2019-20 or are scheduled to be on a varsity roster this fall.
