Men's Tennis Completes Day Two of ITA Midwest Regionals

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The ITA Midwest Regionals continued today on campus with the final rounds of qualifying matches and the beginning of doubles play at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
The Spartans picked up four wins in doubles action but bowed out of the main doubles draw in the round of 16. Jack Winkler and Reed Crocker won their first match 8-6 against foes from DePaul before falling to Robin Parts and Sebastian Vile of Wisconsin, 8-3. The pairs of Kazuki Matsuno and Nick Williams, Graydon Lair and Campbell both took their matches into tiebreaker sets. Matsuno and Williams defeated their opponents from Toledo, but fell 8-5 to Andrew Fenty and Nino Ehrenschneider of Notre Dame.
Luke Baylis, Graydon Lair, Anthony Pero, Nick Williams, Jack Winkler, Max Sheldon and Carson Gates will each compete in tomorrow's main singles draw.

The Spartans are back tomorrow for the beginning of the main singles draw on the road to the championship match.
Luke Baylis advanced to Saturday's main singles draw with a 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-1 win over Leon Huck of DePaul in Friday's qualifying action. Baylis won three matches overall in the singles qualifying draw to advance to the 64-person main draw.
Jarreau Campbell also had a chance to reach the main singles draw after claiming two victories in the qualifying round on Thursday, but he fell in the third round to Cleveland State's Clark Bilinovich, 6-2, 7-5.
"Great effort by Luke Baylis winning three matches to qualify for the main draw singles," head coach Gene Orlando said. "We played some great doubles today but our inability to sustain that level kept us from making a deep run.
