Men’s Golf in Sixth Place after First Day at The Williams Cup

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team fired a 2-under par 286 in the second round and is in sixth place among 10 teams after the first day of play at The Williams Cup, being hosted by the University of North Carolina at the Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C.
The 10-team field includes seven schools ranked among the top-50 nationally by Golfstat.

The Spartans finished the day with a two-round, 54-hole score of 3-over par 579.
Host North Carolina leads the field at 12-under par 564, four shots ahead of North Carolina State (8-under par 568). Vanderbilt is in third place at 4-under par 572, Georgia is in fourth place at 3-under par 573 and Louisville rounds out the top five teams at 1-over par 577.
Freshman Ashton McCulloch (Kingston, Ontario / Holy Cross Catholic) leads Michigan State, entering the final day of play in a tie for seventh place at 3-under par 141. He fired a 4-under par 68 in the second round.
Senior James Piot (Canton, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) is one shot back and tied for 11th place at 2-under par 142. Piot posted rounds of even-par 72 and 2-under par 70, respectively.
Sophomore August Meekhof (Coopersville, Mich. / Allendale) is tied for 29th place at 4-over par 148. He shot a 5-over par 77 in the first round, but bounced back with a 1-under par 71 in the second.
Senior Troy Taylor II (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) is tied for 36th place at 5-over par 149, with an even-par 72 in the opening round and a 5-over par 77 in Monday's afternoon round.
Junior Bradley Smithson (Jr., Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern) is tied for 50th place at 9-over par 153.
Tuesday's final round tees off at 8:30 a.m.
