East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's basketball team has received signed National Letters of Intent from Trejuan Holloman (Saint Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) and Jaxon Kohler (American Fork, Utah/Southern California Academy [Calif.]).
"It's an exciting day for Michigan State and for our basketball program as we welcome both Tre and Jaxon to our family," Head Coach Tom Izzo said. "We're really excited about both of these guys. Tre was the first to commit to us and you've got a guy who has been one of the top players in his state and has really commanded his team in high school. Another part of the great recruiting class is Jaxon, a 6-9 player out of Utah. That's not an area we often recruit, but we started recruiting him and once we got to know him and the family, we were tickled to death and felt like he was going to be a great fit here. Between Tre and Jaxon and both of their families, we think they are going to be great fits as we build this recruiting class."
Tre Holloman (6-2, 175, Minneapolis, Minn./Cretin-Derhman)
Ranked No. 67 nationally, No. 11 among point guards and the top player in the state of Minnesota according to 247Sports.com's composite rankings … A four-star point guard from Cretin-Derham, Holloman is also a three-star defensive back for the football team … He averaged 20.3 points, 9.3 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 4.2 steals while shooting 49.0 percent from the floor in 23 games … Helped lead the Raiders to a Class 4A state runner-up finish with an 18-5 record … Holloman's mother, Crystal, played women's basketball at the University of Minnesota.
Izzo on Holloman
"Tre is a kid that had actually been a two-sport guy, he played football, he's played basketball. He was recruited in both, so a man of my heart. But in Tre, we think we've got a competitive guy who can run the point, who can distribute the ball, who can guard the world, and has improved his shooting each and every year. So, we're very excited about getting Tre and think he's going to be a big part of our future."
Jaxon Kohler (6-9, 250, American Fork, Utah/ Southern California Academy [Calif.])
Ranked No. 62 nationally, No. 9 among forwards and No. 6 in Utah … Scored 53 points and grabbed 23 rebounds and was named the Most Valuable Player at the Pangos All-American Festival in August … Spent his first three years in high school at American Fork in Utah … Named the Utah 6A Player of the Year as a junior, helping to lead American Fork to a 17-7 record and a state semifinal appearance … Finished the season averaging 21.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists … Scored 26 points and had 18 rebounds in the state semifinals … Watched highlights of Hakeem Olajuwon as a youth and wrote down post moves, step-by-step, in a journal before practicing them on a court.
Izzo on Kohler
"He's a post player, ala the Zach Randolph's, for us, of the world, a guy with incredible footwork and size, can really score the basketball, and a guy that, when he was on campus, everybody kind of connected with him. So, we're very excited to get Jaxon. We think he can be a multi-dimensional scorer. He can score inside, he can score outside. He's a very good passer with a high basketball IQ."
