EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State baseball will hold its 16th Annual First Pitch Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022 at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing. Tickets are on sale for the event, which will begin at 6 p.m. with a silent auction and player autographs. Dinner and a formal program will follow at 7 p.m.
This year's event will feature the radio play-by-play voice of the Detroit Tigers, Dan Dickerson as the keynote speaker, while honoring Bruce and Dean Look as the Co-Alumni of the Year.
Dickerson made his debut in the Tigers booth in 2000 and has been the lead play-by-play announcer for them since 2002. A longtime member of the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association, Dickerson was the recipient of the 2016 Ernie Harwell Lifetime Achievement Award winner by Detroit Sports Media, and also earned the 2008 Ty Tyson Excellence in Sports Broadcasting Award. He is a three-time Michigan Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, earning the accolade in 2005, 2006 and 2014.
He also teaches play-by-play courses at Michigan State. Dickerson  recently handled play-by-play duties on Bally Sports TV for several of the Michigan High School football state championship game broadcasts this past weekend.
Dickerson is a native of Clarkston, Michigan, and his wife, L.A., is also a professor at MSU.
Bruce Look was a 1964 Michigan State graduate and played baseball and football for the Spartans, playing for legendary baseball coaches John Kobs and Danny Litwhiler, along with legendary football coach Duffy Daugherty. Look originally signed with the Milwaukee Braves in 1964, and played with the Single-A Binghamton Triplets of the New York-Penn League. He joined the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system in St. Petersburg in 1965 and Santa Barbara in 1966, then later joined the Minnesota Twins in 1967, playing for the Triple-A Spokane Indians. He played one season in the big leagues with the Twins in 1968 as a catcher and pinch hitter. Look played in 59 games with 139 plate appearances, posting a .246 average and nine RBI, and was tabbed the best hitting rookie on the Twins roster in 1968, adding 20 walks to register a .353 on-base percentage.
In 1969, Look played for the Triple-A Denver Bears, then later moved with them when the Twins Triple-A affiliate became the Evansville Triplets in 1970. Before the start of the 1971 season, Look was traded to the New York Yankees, where he played for the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs, before getting traded mid-season to the Milwaukee Brewers, playing for their Triple-A team, the Evansville Triplets. Look retired after the 1971 season.
Older brother Dean Look also played baseball and football at Michigan State, graduating in 1960 after playing for legendary coaches John Kobs and Duffy Daugherty. On the baseball diamond, he earned second-team All-District accolades in 1958, as well as first-team All-Big Ten in 1958 after earning second-team honors in 1959. He was the recipient of the baseball team's MVP award in 1958. On the football field, he was named an All-American his senior year in 1959 by the Football Writers Association and Football News. After playing halfback his first two seasons, Dean made the switch to QB during fall drills of 1959. He was the only player in the country to be named to UPI's Backfield of the Week three times for his efforts, and also set a Big Ten record for completion percentage, completing all seven of his pass attempts vs. Northwestern. Additionally, Dean was MSU's leading punter in 1958 and '59 and was named the team's MVP in 1959.Â
A first-round pick of the Denver Broncos of the AFL, Dean Look opted to sign a contract to play baseball with the Chicago White Sox, but also continued his multi-sport playing at the professional level, playing one game for the New York Titans of the American Football League (AFL) in 1962. He played one season for the Chicago White Sox in 1961, seeing action in three games as an outfielder and pinch hitter.Â
Dean went on to become an official in the NFL for nearly 30 years, including calling the touchdown that resulted from "The Catch" when Joe Montana and Dwight Clark of the San Francisco 49ers connected to beat the Dallas Cowboys in the 1982 NFC Championship game.
Dean Look is a member of the MSU Athletics and Michigan Sports Halls of Fame. Â
Both of the Look brothers graduated from Lansing Everett High School. Bruce currently resides in Traverse City, Michigan, while Dean lives in the Lansing area.
The 2022 MSU Baseball First Pitch Dinner will feature a silent auction, door prizes, player autographs, a team poster, 2022 season ticket card and special tribute to the Annual Crosstown Showdown between the Spartans and Lansing Lugnuts.
Tickets for the First Pitch Dinner range in price from $30 per person for children and students (8th grade and under), $40 for college students (with student ID), $55 for Spartan baseball alumni and $65 each for adults. Sponsored tables of eight are also available.
