EAST LANSING, Mich. - Three Michigan State women's soccer players were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team on Monday afternoon.
Lauren Kozal, Sam White and Ava Cook were recognized as honorees from the North Region. Kozal was named first-team All-Region, while White and Cook received second-team honors. This is the first time since 2017's Jamie Cheslik that Michigan State has had a player named All-Region, and the Spartans have since switched over from the Midwest Region to the North.
The Spartans wrapped up the season on Oct. 31 against Iowa, making their first Big Ten Tournament appearance since 2011. Michigan State finished 10-5-3 with an undefeated non-conference season and a 5-4-1 mark in conference play.
In addition to the All-Region honor, goalkeeper Kozal was also named the Big Ten's Goalkeeper of the Year and was a first-team All-Big Ten selection for the Green & White. Kozal ranked second in the Big Ten with a goals against average of .70, the fifth best single-season GAA in Spartan history. She played a total of 1,680 minutes in goal with 82 saves, holding the highest save percentage in the Big Ten (.863) during the regular season. Her seven regular-season shutouts was the third-most in the conference, and she was second in saves per game with 4.41.
Cook was named second-team after a successful year with the Spartans. She also received All-Big Ten honors. Cook led the team in goals (7), assists (3), points (17), and game-winning goals (3). She totaled 77 shots in season, the third-most in single-season MSU history. She ranked second in the Big Ten in shot attempts, averaging 4.38 per game with 29 shots on goal.
Cook racked up a staggering amount of points in her career thanks in part to a highly successful four years as a member of Grand Valley State women's soccer team.
White was also named to the second-team as a defender. Having started every game this season, she continued her streak of making a start in every game of her Spartan career, totaling 67 so far. White recorded 1,540 minutes on the field this season, the most minutes of any field player. She was a large part of a Spartan backfield that allowed just 12 goals to score from opponents, the third-least in the league and 29th in the NCAA.
