Men's Tennis Begins Doubles Action at Big Ten Indoors

East Lansing, Mich. – The Michigan State's men's tennis team completed day one of the Big Ten Indoor individual championships on Thursday night at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing.
The Spartans competed in the first rounds of doubles action this afternoon, with final doubles matches and the start of singles play beginning tomorrow morning.
"It was a tough day for the Spartans, but we are excited that we have three more days to make adjustments and get better," head coach Gene Orlando commented.
Michigan State came away with two wins on the day, the first from the doubles duo of Josh Mukherjee and Josh Portnoy. After receiving a bye in the first round, they faced foes from Indiana in the round of 16. Mukherjee and Portnoy bested Basavereddy and Rogers 6-1, allowing just a single point to score from their opponents.
Kazuki Matsuno and Nick Williams recieved a first-round bye in the doubles tournament and faced a pair from Northwestern in the quarterfinals. The Spartan duo defeated their opponents 6-3 to move on in the bracket.
Graydon Lair and Jarreau Campbell fell in a close matchup against opponents from Northwestern. The match went into a tiebreaker at 7-6 but ended up going in Berdusco and Bratholm of the Wildcats' favor.
Reed Crocker and Max Sheldon faced a pair from Wisconsin. The match went into extra point territory, 7-5 but was a loss for the Spartans.
