MSU to play 44-game Big Ten-only schedule starting on March 5.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State baseball announced its 2021 schedule Wednesday. Due to the start of the season being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, MSU will play 44 games over 13 weekends in a Big Ten Conference-only ledger in 2021, beginning on Friday, March 5.
The Spartans will play either three or four games against a B1G opponent every weekend of the 2021 season, with no mid-week or non-conference games on the slate.
The 2021 schedule features two neutral site weekends, as well as three weekends with three-team pods, where each team will play four games the weekend of pod play, twice against each opponent.
Â
Michigan State opens the 2021 season with back-to-back weekends in Greenville, S.C. at Fluor Field. MSU will face off with Maryland in a four-game series March 5-7, then return to Greenville the following weekend to face Northwestern March 12-14.
MSU's first pod play weekend is March 19-21, with Michigan and Illinois, hosted by Michigan in Ann Arbor.Â
The Spartans' 2021 home opener is the weekend of March 26-28, welcoming Indiana to McLane Stadium at Kobs Field.Â
Michigan State then heads to Minneapolis to face Minnesota April 2-4, before returning home to host the second pod play weekend, hosting Penn State and Purdue April 9-11. MSU's third and final scheduled pod play weekend will see the Spartans head to Champaign, Illinois to take on host-Illinois and Purdue, April 16-18.
Nebraska visits McLane Stadium at Kobs Field April 23-25, before MSU travels to State College, Pa., the following weekend to play at Penn State April 30-May 2.
The Spartans host in-state rival Michigan May 7-9, before a two-weekend road swing, heading to Columbus, Ohio to face Ohio State May 14-16, then traveling to Piscataway, N.J. for a weekend series at Rutgers.Â
MSU wraps up regular-season action hosting Iowa, May 28-30.
The Big Ten Conference also announced that in order to allow for maximum flexibility in the potential rescheduling of games, there will not be a Big Ten Baseball Tournament this season.
NCAA Regionals are scheduled for June 4-6, with Super Regional slated for June 11-13, and the College World Series June 18-27, at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.
Further details on the pod play weekends and game times will be announced at a later date. All dates and opponents are subject to change.
Under current Michigan State University and Big Ten Conference guidelines, the general public, beyond student-athletes' families, are not permitted for 2021 Spartan baseball home games.
