East Lansing, Mich. --Â Michigan State rowing coach Kim Chavers has announced the spring competition schedule for her team.
Â
"We're excited to get things underway, and that's an understatement," said Chavers, who is in her second year at Michigan State, but has yet had an opportunity to coach a Spartan race since the 2020 season was canceled before it began for MSU. "Having some dates on paper and knowing when we will have a chance to compete is an important piece in our training. I think our athletes are more than ready to get into a boat and test themselves."
Â
The first three Michigan State competitions will be in the state of Ohio. It all begins March 27 when MSU, Michigan, Indiana, and Iowa head to Columbus to race Ohio State. A week later (April 3), the Griggs Reservoir in Columbus hosts the ACC/Big Ten Double Dual, featuring Duke, Virginia, MSU, Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio State.Â
Â
On April 17, MSU will race in its largest in-season regatta when Cincinnati's Lake Harsha plays host to the Big Ten Invitational. Each of the Big Ten squads will be on hand in addition to an equal number of "invited" non-Big Ten crews.Â
Â
MSU's shortest trip of the season will come on April 24, when MSU will race Eastern Michigan on Ford Lake in Ypsilanti.Â
Â
On May 1, MSU will head to Bloomington, Ind. to race both Indiana and Minnesota in the final dual races of the season. Two weeks later are the Big Ten Championships, which will be held in Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wisconsin.Â
Â
The NCAA Championship Regatta is slated for May 28-30, 2021 at Nathan Benderson Park in Bradenton, FL.
