
Kozal, Schrotenboer and Wahlberg Named to Big Ten Preseason Honors List

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Three Michigan State women's soccer players were named to the Big Ten Women's Soccer Preseason Honors list as voted on by the coaches, the Big Ten Conference announced on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Kozal, sophomore defender Bria Schrotenboer and junior forward Gia Wahlberg represent the Spartans in the preseason honors list.

Kozal, a sophomore, hailing from Ada, Michigan, started all 19 games last season. The goalkeeper allowed 28 goals for 1.53 goals against average. She also recorded five shutouts with a .738 save percentage.

Schrotenboer, a sophomore from Holland, Michigan, makes her second appearance on the preseason honors list. After a stellar freshman campaign, she earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman team. Last season, the defender was selected to attend the U.S. U-20 National Team training camp in the fall of 2019 in Chula Vista, California.

Wahlberg, a junior from South Elgin, Illinois, led the team in scoring in 2019. The forward scored a team-leading nine goals for 18 points last season. She also led the team with four game-winning goals. Wahlberg led the Big Ten with eight points in a win against Marshall on Aug. 25, 2019, as well as standing first in goals per game (0.60 gpg).
