EAST LANSING – The Michigan State women's golf team has altered its schedule for the upcoming week. The Spartans will no longer be playing in the ICON Invitational, Feb. 22-23 in Houston. MSU, ranked 29th in the latest Golfweek rankings, will now instead travel to Oldsmar, Florida to meet Kent State, which is ranked 15th, in the Sunshine Shootout dual match on Monday and Tuesday. The two teams will meet at Eastlake Woodlands and play 36 holes on Monday and then 18 the following day.
The Spartan lineup will include Yurika Tanida, Valery Plata, Paz Marfa Sans, Haylin Harris and Valentina Rossi, while the rest of the Spartans will make the trip to play as individuals.
Additionally, the Spartans made one other schedule change as they'll now be playing in the IU Spring Challenge, April 5-6, in Sellersburg, Indiana.
Michigan State is coming off a win at the FAU Paradise Invitational, Feb. 7-9, where their 6-under-par 858 bested Maryland by one stroke. Tanida and Plata both placed in the top 10 of the event, finishing sixth and ninth, respectively.
Through two tournaments and six rounds, Tanida and Plata have identical scoring averages – 72.17 – to lead the Spartans.
