Big Ten Championships Begin Friday For Men’s Golf Team

EAST LANSING – The Michigan State men's golf team will compete for a league title this weekend as it heads to Carmel, Indiana and Crooked Stick Golf Club for the 2021 Big Ten Championships. The three-day, 54-hole event will take place Friday-Sunday.

THE COURSE
In 1964, Crooked Stick was the first course constructed by Pete Dye. A player at Crooked Stick will find that no consecutive holes are laid out in the same direction, one must constantly adjust to wind from a different tack, long holes are followed by short holes, and shots calling for right-to-left flight are followed by shots requiring left-to-right path.
The par-72 course, which has consistently been rated one of the top 100 courses in the nation, will play at 7,516 yards this weekend.

SPARTANS AT THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Michigan State has four Big Ten titles, the last of which came in 2008. MSU won three titles (2005, 2007, 2008) in a span of four years with current head coach Casey Lubahn then serving as an assistant coach. The Spartan also won the league crown in 1969.
In the last conference championship, played in 2019, the Spartans had their best showing – third – since winning the title in 2008. Donnie Trosper's fourth-place finish was also the best by a Spartan since Ryan Brehnm was the runner-up in 2008. James Piot placed 21st in 2019, the highest finish of any current Spartan that season.

"Our guys have played pretty solid golf for the last FIVE weeks and I firmly believe that we can compete for this title and a postseason bid over the coming weekend.
