Valery Plata Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

EAST LANSING – Michigan State junior Valery Plata has been named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday, April 7. Plata recorded the second-lowest 54-hole total of her career with a 7-under-par 209 in helping the Spartans win the IU Spring Challenge on Monday.
Plata had two rounds in the 60s, including a 3-under-par 69 in the opening round and a 7-under-par 65 in the final round. The 65 was the lowest of her career and the third-lowest in program history.
The Spartans won the IU Spring challenge by 32 strokes, finishing 15-under-par 849 (284-285-280).
The weekly conference honor is the second of Plata's career and her first since Oct. 2019.
Michigan State is back in action April 17-18 at the Indiana Invitational.
