In his three seasons at Michigan State from 1999-2002, Miller established himself as one of the greatest goaltenders in college hockey history. Miller recorded an NCAA record 26 shutouts over his three seasons in the Green and White - an NCAA record. His .941 career save percentage and 1.54 GAA are both second best in NCAA history. In 2001, he became just the second goaltender to win the Hobey Baker Award.
He won the CCHA's Best Goaltender Award all three of his seaons and was named the CCHA Player of the year as a sophomore and junior.
Miller represented the United States on several occasions, perhaps most memorably in 2010 when he was named MVP of the Olympic Games as the U.S. took home the silver medal.
He won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's best goaltender in 2010.
