For Piot to advance to the NCAA Championships, he'll need to be the top individual finisher out of those players not on one of the top five teams at the end of Wednesday's third round.
Piot started Tuesday with a birdie on No. 1. After bogeying No. 3, he recorded back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes and made the turn at 2-under-par. The native of Canton then picked up a birdie on the par-5 11th hole, but a bogey two holes later on the 14th put him at 2-under-par. Piot parred the 15th and 16th holes, but a birdie on the 17th – another par-5, got him back to 3-under. He ended the day with a par on the 18th to secure his seventh round of the season in the 60s.
His 3-under-par 68 tied for the second-lowest round of the day.
There are just seven players in the field ahead of Piot and he's one of six players tied for eighth place. San Diego State's Youssef Guezzale and host Vanderbilt's Reid Davenport lead the field at 5-under-par.
The third and final round will begin Wednesday morning.
