SCOTTSDALE, Arizona – The Michigan State women's golf team's season came to an end on Sunday in the third round of the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Spartans needed to be the top 15 at the conclusion of Sunday's round to move on to Monday, and MSU came up one spot short, finishing 16th.

MSU shot a 15-over-par 303 on Sunday and wound up 34-over-par 898 (301-294-303) over the three rounds. UCLA claimed the 15th and final spot to move on to Monday at 31-over-par 895.
Paz Marfa Sans led MSU on Sunday with a 1-under-par 71 – her best round of the tournament.
"We were doing awesome through 12-13 holes, then we hit the last stretch, which yesterday we really rocked and just hit a stop sign today," MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll said. "I'm a little shocked at what happened to us there at the end.
"I'm still proud of Paz. She got to 3-under at one point and wound up shooting 1-under, which was our low score today."
Junior Valery Plata was the Spartans' top finisher as she tied for 50th place at 6-over-par 222 (72-72-78).
Playing in her second NCAA Championships, junior Haylin Harris finished tied for 88th at 12-over-par 228 (75-75-78).
Senior Yurika Tanida tied for 97th at 14-over-par 230 (76-74-80), while Marfa Sans, a fifth-year senior, was 15-over-par 231 (78-82-71).
Freshman Valentina Rossi played the final two rounds and was 5-over-par 149 (73-76).
The Spartans' 16th-place finish at the national championships was their best since tying for ninth in 2013.
"We're one of the top 24 teams in the country, we're Big Ten champions, we made it here – which is a feat in itself," Slobodnik-Stoll said. "There are great teams every year that don't make it to the national championship. We had this experience for four kids on this team that are coming back next year. I'm so proud of what we were able to accomplish this year."
The Spartans, which were making their 14 appearance in program history at the national championships, finished the highest of any of the three teams from the Big Ten.
Stanford continued to lead the field following Sunday's round, ending the day at 18-under-par 846 – 20 strokes ahead of second-place Duke.
