Mary Lewis Earns All-Big Ten Honors for Second-Straight Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior Mary Lewis was named to the women's tennis All-Big Ten team, as announced by the Big Ten Conference on Monday. This is the second-straight season that she has made the All-Big Ten squad.
A native of Bellflower, California, Lewis is the first Spartan to earn back-to-back All-Big Ten accolades since Monty Gettys in 1982 and 1983. Lewis is also the first Spartan to earn All-Big Ten honors since Erin Faulkner received the honor in 2015. Overall, Lewis is the 11th women's tennis player to earn the distinction in program history.
In the abbreviated season, Lewis played at No. 1 singles. The senior ended Big Ten-only play with a 7-10 record. She was also part of the No. 83-ranked doubles team along with junior Maja Pietrowicz. Lewis and Pietrowicz played No. 1 doubles and ended the grueling Big Ten season with an 8-4 record.
Lewis was also named Michigan State's Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree. The student-athletes chosen for the award are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
