James Piot’s Season Comes to an End at the NCAA Championships

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona – Michigan State senior James Piot's run at the 2021 NCAA Championships came to an end on Sunday evening. The native of Canton shot an 8-over-par 78 on Sunday, finishing the three rounds 11-over-par 222 (69-74-78) and tied for 90th place. Piot came up short in needing to be one of top nine individuals not on one of the 15 advancing teams to move on to Monday's final round to get a shot at the individual national championship.

"He struggled last two days and didn't hit or putt up to his caliber on a very demanding golf course this afternoon," MSU head coach Casey Lubahn said. "I think he knows he can play with everyone here and he'll start working tomorrow to get back here and compete next year. We're grateful to him for puting our program in such a positive light."
Piot was four-over-par on both the front and back nine on Sunday.
Oklahoma's Bo Jin is 9-under-par 201 for the tournament and will take a two shot lead into Monday's fourth and final round.
Piot, a PING All-Region honoree and first team All-Big Ten selection, will return to MSU next season for a fifth year under the NCAA ruling allowing student-athletes an extra year of eligibility.
