
Spartans Add Two For 2021-22

EAST LANSING – Michigan State hockey head coach Danton Cole announced today (June 1) the addition of two players for the 2021-22 season as forwards Chris Berger and Griffin Loughran have officially joined the Spartan program. Berger and Loughran join the previously signed recruits - Jeremy Davidson (F), David Gucciardi (D), Tanner Kelly (F), Erik Middendorf (F) and Jesse Tucker (F) – bringing the total number of newcomers for 2021-22 to seven.
"We are excited to announce the addition of Griffin and Chris to Spartan Hockey," Michigan State head coach Danton Cole said. "They will fit in well with the incoming student-athletes and greatly increase the depth to our returners. They add experience and intelligence to our lineup and will be a large part of Spartan Hockey moving forward."

Comes to MSU with two years of eligibility … Played 65 games for Brown University over the course of two and a half seasons (2017-20) and recorded 28 points, including 11 goals and 17 assists … Played in 27 games as a freshman in 2017-18, picking up a goal and four assists, while leading the team with a plus-8 rating … Saw action in 29 games in his second season at Brown where he recorded eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points, which ranked third on the team … Eleven of his points came over the last 12 games of the 2018-19 season … Played in nine games in 2019-20 before missing the remainder of the season due to injury … Brown's 2020-21 season was cancelled due to COVID-19 … Played for the Des Moines Buccaneers in the USHL in 2016-17, registering 30 points (10g, 20a) in 48 games … Played for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres in the Ontario Junior Hockey League prior to the USHL.

Offensive winger with great speed, hands and scoring touch around the net … Plays fearless and hard every shift … Strong special teams player on both the penalty kill and power play
Comes to MSU with two years of eligibility … Played 88 games over three seasons for Northern Michigan University (2018-21) where he recorded 35 goals and 37 assists for 72 points … Led NMU as a sophomore in 2019-20 with 39 points, while his 23 goals were tied for second most in the nation as he was voted to the All-WCHA second team … Also led the Wildcats in both power-play goals with seven and game-winning goals with four, which was the third-highest total in the country … Had 10 multi-point games and a seven-game point streak in 2019-20 … Played in 16 games in 2020-21, producing 16 points (5g, 11a) … Played in 35 games as a freshman in 2019-19, recording 18 points, including seven goals and 11 assists … Prior to NMU, he played in the USHL for the Fargo Force in 2017-18 where he had 18 goals and 24 assists in 50 games … He was named playoff MVP in helping Fargo to the USHL's Clark Cup title in 2018.
