James Piot Earns PING All-America Honorable Mention Accolades

EAST LANSING -- Michigan State senior James Piot added to his long list of accolades on Monday (July 12) as he was named to the PING Honorable Mention All-American Team, it was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The honor is the first of Piot's career as the last Spartan to garner honorable mention All-America accolades was Ryan Brehm in 2008.

Piot, who will be returning to MSU for a fifth season in 2021-22, produced the lowest single-season scoring average in program history this past year at 71.33. The Canton native was an All-Big Ten first team selection and sported a 3.66 GPA as a finance major, helping him garner CoSIDA Academic All-District and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors.

Piot produced four top-four finishes during the regular season, including a win at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational. He placed sixth at the Big Ten Championships and then earned a bid to the NCAA Kingston Springs Regional. With a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Kingston Springs Regional and as the top individual not part of one of the advancing teams, Piot garnered the region's lone individual bid to the NCAA Championships. He became the first Spartan to compete as an individual at the NCAA Championships since Eric Jorgensen did so in 2002.
