New leadership giving society recognizes philanthropic donors.
In efforts to recognize MSU Athletics' most generous donors while securing the financial resources to enhance the experience for Spartan student-athletes in the classroom, in competition, and in their life's pursuit, the Spartan Fund has launched The Athlos Society. Athlos, derived from the Greek word meaning contest or feat, embodies the ancient Greek ideal of pursuing perfection and excellence.
The Athlos Society is Michigan State Athletics' leadership giving society, recognizing Spartan Fund donors making philanthropic commitments of $50,000 or more (separate from seat premiums; gifted over 5 years) in support of state-of-the-art facilities, endowments that provide perpetual support, excellence funds that enable our head coaches to address their most pressing needs, as well as other philanthropic designations.
"Michigan State University and, in particular the athletics department, have always had leaders driving change and increasing opportunities," said Vice President & Director of Athletics Bill Beekman. "In much the same way, our leadership donors are invested in 'Victory for MSU' - driving transformation and pushing us and our student-athletes to pursue excellence in all facets. I'm excited for The Athlos Society and recognizing our premier investors who help ensure a bright, championship-level future for MSU Athletics."
In recognition of their generous support, members of The Athlos Society will have opportunities for exclusive access and experiences with Spartan head coaches, student-athletes, and administrators through events, pre-game sideline access for Spartan football, away game travel, as well as increased priority points.
"Championship-level programs take championship-level performances from all involved in the program - from coaches, student-athletes, and staff to fans and donors," said men's basketball head coach Tom Izzo. "We're grateful to those that invest in our sports, programs, and student-athletes to ensure Michigan State achieves competitive excellence. I look forward to personally meeting members of The Athlos Society to provide our sincere appreciation for their generosity."
"Members of The Athlos Society truly set the pace for success," said football head coach Mel Tucker. "This is about Michigan State being elite, taking it to the next level, and leading the way so that our student-athletes can have an unbelievable experience as Spartans. Philanthropy can be a difference-maker. We hope our donors will respond by investing in Spartan Athletics in a big way and join The Athlos Society."
"We are enthusiastic about launching The Athlos Society," said Executive Associate Athletics Director & Senior Director of Development Rebecca Surian. "Philanthropic support provides transformative resources for our athletic department to provide the very best experience for our student-athletes current, past and future. We look forward to introducing this leadership giving society to our most philanthropic donors, partnering with them to match their support with their interests, and saying 'thank you' in premier ways."
