Spartans in Second After Two Rounds of the Gopher Invitational

INDEPENDENCE, Minnesota – The Michigan State men's golf team stands in second place after two rounds of play on Sunday at the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minnesota. The Spartans are 7-under-par 561 (276-285) and just four shots back of the tournament leader, Kansas. MSU is two shots ahead of third-place Notre Dame and four in front of fourth-place Kent State.

Junior Bradley Smithson is tied with Luke Kluver of Kansas for first place individually at 5-under-par 137. Smithson carded a pair of rounds in the 60s, including a 2-under-par 69 to start the day, followed by a 3-under-par 68 in round two. In all, Smithson was even or under par on 32 of 36 holes on Sunday.
Senior Troy Taylor II is tied for 11th place at 2-under-par 140. Taylor carded the lowest round of the day by any player in the field of 75 with a 5-under-par 66 in the opening round. The round included seven birdies, including each of the final two holes. He followed it up with a 3-over-par 74 in round two.
Sophomore August Meekhof shot a pair of even-par 71s and is tied for 21st place at even-par 142.
James Piot recorded an eagle on the 602-yar, par-5 ninth hole in round one as he shot an even-par 71. He followed it up with a 1-over-par 72. Piot is tied for 27th place at 1-over-par 143.
Freshman Ashton McCulloch is tied for 40th place at 4-over-par 146.
Monday's final round is scheduled to begin at 8:15 a.m. ET.
