
Farai Mutatu Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

The senior forward earned his second Big Ten honor.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State senior forward Farai Mutatu was named Big Ten Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Mutatu, who hails from Haslett, Michigan, earned the Spartans' first Player of the Week honor of the season after MSU went 1-0-1 last week. Mutatu scored three goals in the Spartans' 4-3 come-from-behind win at Notre Dame on Sept. 14 to become the first Michigan State player to record a hat trick since Jay Chapman in 2012. He helped the Spartans overcome a 3-1 first half deficit, scoring two goals in the second half including the game winner goal off the assist from fellow senior Jack Beck.
MSU was undefeated last week with a win at Notre Dame and a tie at Wisconsin.Â
This was his second career Big Ten honors and the Spartans' Offensive Player of the Week since Mutatu was honored on October 1, 2019.
Michigan State's last Big Ten Player of the Week honor was Will Perkins, who captured Defensive Player of the Week accolades on April 6, 2021.
MSU opens a three-game homestand against Duquesne on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
