The Spartans topped Indiana 1-0 on Sunday, Sept. 19 for a win in their conference opener, due in large part to a strong defense in the backfield. Indiana had 19 shot attempts, five taken on goal, but were kept from scoring a goal on Michigan State, despite totaling 13 in their previous three games.
Cox, a junior from Muskegon, Mich., played the full 90 minutes for the second time this year as part of the Spartan defensive force, anchoring the back line against Indiana's frequent attack. Cox has logged 554 minutes of action so far this season and has appeared in the starting lineup of all eight games.
"Raegan did a great job pressing and shutting down her side of the field in her one-on-one moments," head coach Jeff Hosler commented. "She also had a key block in the first half. She made good decisions overall on the ball and was a catalyst for the attack."
The Green & White are currently undefeated with a 6-0-2 mark, having finished the nonconference portion of the season with four shutout victories and kicking off league play with a shutout at Indiana. Over eight games the Spartans have allowed just three goals to score from opponents, dominating with 16 goals of their own scored.
Cox and the Spartans continue conference play this Thursday, Sept. 23 when they host Wisconsin for a 7 p.m. game.
