
Men’s Tennis Sweeps Doubles Action at Bayliss Invite Day One

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Michigan State men's tennis team wrapped up day one of the Bayliss Invite hosted by Notre Dame on Friday, collecting four wins in singles play and sweeping doubles action with five victories.
Freshman Josh Portnoy picked up his first collegiate victory when he won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 against Michigan's Ryan Fu. Reed Crocker and Anthony Pero both won their matches against foes from DePaul in third-set tiebreakers. Luke Baylis rounded out singles play wins for the Spartans with a victory against Western Michigan's Brogan Pierce 6-4, 7-6 (9).
The Green & White were victorious in all five of their doubles matches on Friday afternoon. The teams of Jack Winkler and Crocker, Baylis and Pero both won their matches 8-5. Jarreau Campbell and Josh Mukherjee defeated their opponents Kade Mindry and Clark Bilinovich from Cleveland State 8-4. Max Sheldon won his first collegiate match in a battle with Baylis against Western Michigan foes Brogan Pierce and Arjun Honnappa, 8-7 (2). Kazuki Matsuno and Nick Williams defeated a pair from Northwestern in an 8-7 (4) tiebreaker.
MSU returns to action tomorrow for day two of the Bayliss Invite.
