East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State men's basketball senior Gabe Brown (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) and junior Malik Hall (Aurora, Ill./Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]) have been selected as co-captains for the Spartans for the 2021-22 season, Head Coach Tom Izzo announced on Monday.
"Gabe and Malik are two of our veterans and great selections by their teammates to serve as the leaders of our team this season," Izzo said. "They've had the opportunity to learn and watch under some great leaders over the last few years, guys like Matt McQuaid, Cassius Winston, Xavier Tillman and Joshua Langford, and I think those lessons will help them as they step into major leadership roles this year. A lot is expected of the captains at Michigan State and I think both Gabe and Malik are ready accept that responsibility."
Brown appeared in 25 games last year, starting five times, and was fifth on the team in scoring with 7.2 points per game. He was second on the team in field goal percentage (47.1 percent) and led the team in 3-point percentage, connecting on 42.0 percent of his shots. He has appeared in 88 career games, averaging 5.3 points.
Hall appeared in all 28 games last year, starting nine times, and was sixth on the team with 5.2 points and fourth with 4.2 rebounds per game. He has appeared in 59 career games, averaging 4.8 points per game.
The Spartans will hold their first official practice of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 28. The men's and women's basketball teams will hold an Open Practice at the Breslin Center on Saturday, October 2 ahead of the Spartans' Homecoming football game against Western Kentucky at 7:30 p.m.
