EAST LANSING, Mich. – After both posting top-3 finishes at last week's Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Michigan State seniors Morgan Beadlescomb and Jenna Magness were named the Big Ten Men's and Women's Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Â
The Spartans' All-American runners both took on familiar competition from last season's NCAA Championship, with Magness taking second place in the women's race and Beadlescomb finishing third in the men's event.
Â
Beadlescomb used an 8K time of 24:18.5 to take third place at the Griak, trailing only defending NCAA Champion Conner Mantz of BYU and NCAA third-place finisher Wesley Kiptoo from Iowa State.
Â
For Magness, she finished just 1.7 seconds behind the winner, Iowa State's Cailie Logue, to take second in the 6K women's event at a time of 20:59.6, beating out the likes of Minnesota's Bethany Hasz, who finished eighth at the NCAAs last season.
Â
Prior to the Griak, both runners won their season debuts at the Spartan Invitational on Sept. 17.
Â
The Green and White will return to action on Friday, Oct. 15 at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin.
