Spartans Lead the Field After Two Rounds at the Island Resort Intercollegiate

HARRIS, Michigan – The Michigan State men's golf team leads the season-opening Island Resort Intercollegiate after two rounds by 16 shots. The Spartans are 17-under-par 559 (278-281) after two rounds on Sunday at Sage Run Golf Club in Harris, Michigan, and lead second-place Michigan by 16 strokes. UCF is in third place at 6-over-par 582.

The Spartans' James Piot and Troy Taylor II are in first and second place, respectively. Piot is 6-under-par 138, while Taylor II is 5-under-par 139 and tied with Kentucky's Hugo Archer and UCF's Clement Charmasson for second place.
Piot shot an open-round 2-under-par 70, then followed it up with a 4-under-par 68 – tying for the lowest round by a Spartan on Sunday. His second round included an eagle on the par-5 12th hole.
Taylor carded a 3-under-par 69 to open the day, which included an eagle just prior to the turn on the par-5 ninth hole. He shot a 2-under-par 70 in the afternoon.
August Meekhof and Ashton McCulloch are both tied for seventh place at 2-under-par 142. Meekhof shot an even-par 72 in round one. In the afternoon, he got as low as 5-under on the back nine and wound up finishing with a 2-under-par 70.
McCulloch's opening round 4-under-par 68 included six birdies. He followed it up with a 2-over-par 74 in round two in what is his first collegiate tournament.
Bradley Smithson is tied for 10th place at even-par 144. Smithson carded a 1-under-par 71 and followed it up with a 2-over-par 73. His second round included an eagle on the ninth hole – the third eagle by a Spartan on the day.
Monday's third and final round is slated to begin at 7:40 a.m.
