Michigan State's James Piot is one of three finalists for the Ben Hogan Award's August Golfer of the Month, the organization announced on Wednesday (Sept. 8). Piot joins Mark Goetz of West Virginia and Max Sekulic of Washington State as the finalists for the August award.
Piot made history last month when he became the first Spartan and first player born in the State of Michigan to win the U.S. Amateur Championship. Piot claimed the world's top amateur championship title by defeating Austin Greaser 2 & 1 in the championship match at the famed Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, on August 15.
Earlier in August, Piot won his second Golf Association of Michigan Championship.
The Ben Hogan Award's monthly honor counts any college, amateur or professional event completed during the month.
