Taylor and Piot Share Big Ten Golfer of the Week Honors

Michigan State men's golfers James Piot and Troy Taylor II were part of a trio named Big Ten Golfers of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday (Sept. 8). Taylor and Piot shared the honor with Indian's Drew Salyers.

Piot and Taylor tied for medalist honors at last week's Island Resort Intercollegiate where the Spartans also won as a team. Both Spartans shot a 7-under-par 209, which bettered the third-place finishers by four shots.

The individual title was the fourth of Piot's career and second at the Island Resort Intercollegiate, having last done so in 2019. All three of Piot's rounds were under par as he shot a 70, 68 and 71, respectively in what was the season-opening tournament for the Spartans.

For Taylor, it was the first individual title of his career. The senior from Westerville was even or below par on 48 of the 54 holes on the weekend. He opened the tournament with a 3-under-par 69 and followed it up with a pair of 2-under-par 70s.

The weekly conference honor is the fifth of Piot's career and the first for Taylor.

Michigan State returns to action Sept. 12-13 with the Gopher Invitational in Independence, Minnesota.
