EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's basketball announced its complete 2021-22 schedule in conjunction with the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday.
Complete Big Ten Release
After a COVID-19 shortened season in which the Spartans played only 24 games, MSU will play a full slate of games this season.
After a season with a 20-game B1G schedule, the Big Ten will return an 18-game slate. The conference played an 18-game league schedule in both 2018-19 and 2019-20. The Big Ten also had 18-game schedules in both 2015-16 and 2014-15.
During the regular season, the Spartans will take on eight teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament during the 2020-21 season, including B1G foes, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Northwestern and Rutgers. MSU opponents Florida Gulf Coast and West Virginia also reached the NCAA Tournament last season.
Michigan State will start the season with five home games in November, including four-straight to start the season. MSU's first two road games will be at Fordham on Nov. 21 and St. Francis College (NY) on Nov. 23.
The Spartans will open the month of December with the return of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Dec. 2, before opening league play against Iowa on Dec. 5. Prior to the holiday break, Michigan State will play Florida Gulf Coast (Dec. 20) and West Virginia (Dec. 21) at the West Palm Invitational.
The 2022 portion of the season will open with three home games offset by five road Big Ten contests in January. Michigan State will only be at home three times in the month against Purdue (Jan. 9), Northwestern (Jan. 16) and Minnesota (Jan. 23).
In February, MSU have four home league games and three road trips. Michigan State will have key home matchups with Big Ten Champion Maryland (Feb. 3) and in-state rival Michigan (Feb. 10). The Spartans will celebrate Senior Day hosting Ohio State on Feb. 27.
The 2021-22 Big Ten season will conclude March 2-6 with the 29th Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament, which will be held at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The 2022 NCAA Women's Final Four will also be held on Big Ten territory on April 1 & 3 at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
During the abbreviated 2020-21 season, Michigan State went 15-9, including a 9-7 record in Big Ten action. The Spartans reached the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
The Big Ten will announce game times at a later date, following the selection of TV games.
Once again, MSUFCU is a season sponsor for the Michigan State women's basketball team.
