Ekh Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's basketball guard/forward Matilda Ekh was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday, as announced by the league office.
The Västerås, Sweden native captured her second Freshman of the Week honor after leading the Spartans to a win against Minnesota on Jan. 23, scoring 23 points. Ekh also dished out a career-high six assists, topping her previous high of four, done twice in previous two games, at Ohio State (1/12/22) and vs. Northwestern (1/16/22). She also garnered the honor on Dec. 13. Ekh is now also tied for the most 20+ points games by a Spartan freshman since Nia Clouden had three 20-point outings in 2018-19.
She is the second Spartan to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Week this season with guard DeeDee Hagemann also garnering the honor on Nov. 15. She is the third current MSU player to earn the award, as Clouden was named Freshman of the Week on Dec. 31, 2018. Overall, Michigan State has had players earn the accolade 11 times.
Clouden also earned her third appearance on the Big Ten Honor Roll after capturing the honor on Nov. 29 and Jan. 3. She also was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Dec. 27. Against the Gophers, she led the Spartans with 25 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter.
Michigan State will now hit the road for a pair of games next week. The Spartans will take on Penn State on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. MSU will conclude the road trip on Sunday, Jan. 30 at Rutgers at 2 p.m.
