Spartans Dominate in Green & White Dual, Conclude Fall Tournament Slate

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State women's tennis team wrapped up its final competition and took home 26 overall victories at the 2022 Green & White Dual, with play concluding Sunday afternoon at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
Senior Dagmar Zdrubecka was a force to be reckoned with in both the singles and doubles competitions, registering 3-0 records on the weekend in both flights of matches. The Prague, Czech Republic, native teamed up with freshman Issey Purser throughout the tournament in doubles play, and opened action with a 6-3 decision over Emma Peeler and Annika Planinsek of Ball State. The duo pressed on in Saturday's action, recording a hard-fought 7-6(8) win over Jordan Schildcrout and Norah Balthazor of Butler before finishing things off with a 6-4 victory against Lara Kaiser and Andie Weise of Marquette.
In singles, Zdrubecka ripped off a pair of straight-set wins before grinding out a three-set decision in her final match of the weekend. Against Marquette's Sarah Badawi, the Spartan senior published a 6-2, 6-0 win and follower that up with a 6-2, 6-2 result against Katie Beavin of Butler. In her final singles contest of the fall, Zdrubecka suffered a 3-6 defeat in the first set before completing a resounding 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 comeback against Ella Hazelbaker of Ball State. Purser added one win of her own in singles, downing Norah Balthazor of Butler in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Senior Tia Mukherjee was the only other Spartan to escape the weekend unblemished in both singles and doubles competition, picking up a pair of victories in both disciplines. Mukherjee paired up with sophomore Charlotte Gisclon and senior Monique Karoub, dispatching with Katie and Emma Beavin in both a 6-1, and 6-2 match, respectively. In singles, Mukherjee defeated Nicole Hopman of Marquette in a steady 6-4, 6-4 showing before dropping Ball State's Jacqueline Pearsall in a 6-3, 6-2 outing.
Gisclon finished the tournament undefeated in singles play at 3-0, and secured a 2-1 record individually in doubles. Freshmen Marley Lambert, Makenna Martinez, Juliette Nask and Sarah Fazlagic each produced at least one victory in singles play, while graduate Nicole Conard logged one win apiece in singles and doubles. Finally, junior Marlo Schiffman finished the tournament with a 1-1 ledger in doubles, playing alongside Fazlagic and Martinez.

Michigan State women's tennis enters a two-month hiatus before the start of the 2023 dual match campaign. The Spartans open the regular season with a 1 p.m. road fixture against the Toledo Rockets at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Sunday, Jan. 15.
