MSU Women Head in to Holiday Break with a 98-50 Win over Prairie View A&M

Four Spartans reached double figures in the win.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Nine Spartans scored at least five points, as the Michigan State women's basketball team cruised to a 98-50 victory over Prairie View A&M Tuesday night at the Breslin Center.
With the win, the Spartans have captured two-straight wins, improving to 8-5 this season, while Prairie View A&M falls to 3-8 this season.
Four Spartans reached double figures led by 19 points from graduate guard Kamaria McDaniel, while sophomore guard Matilda Ekh added 12 points all scored in the third quarter. Senior guard Moira Joiner scored 11 points with six rebounds and two steals, while graduate guard Stephanie had a season high with 10 points. For the second-straight game, sophomore forward Isaline Alexander reached double figures in rebounds with 10.
The Panthers were led by 16 points off the bench by Diana Rosenthal.
Michigan State had a massive night on the boards out rebounding the Panthers, 59-30.
After a sluggish start, Michigan State scored eight points over a 1:55 span to open up a 24-15 lead. The Panthers fought back to make it a 26-20 game at the end of the first period after a TaMiracle Taylor bucket. The Spartan offense got going thanks in part to 17 combined points from McDaniel and Joiner.
Another 6-0 run in the second period gave MSU the palindromic 32-23 lead with six minutes left in the quarter. The spurt ballooned to 15-0 as Michigan State jumped out 41-23 after a Visscher layup. Despite still struggling from the field, the Spartans were solid on the boards, out-rebounding the Panthers, 28-15 at the half. Visscher was solid in the second quarter with five points in six minutes of action.
Ekh caught fire with three-straight treys, as part of a 15-0 Spartan run in the third quarter. Michigan State was able keep its advantage, as seven different players scored in the period, led by Ekh's 12 points. Michigan State out-scored Prairie View A&M 33-13 in the third stanza.Â
Twelve different players stepped on the court for MSU in the final 10 minutes, led by six points from freshman guard Theryn Hallock. Fellow freshman guard Abbey Kimball added five points, as well. Michigan State took its biggest lead of the game, 48 points with 1:14 remaining after a second-chance jumper by Kimball.
The Spartans will take a quick break for the holidays before ending the 2022 portion of the schedule against Indiana on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 3 p.m.
