Ekh Named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's basketball guard/forward Matilda Ekh was named Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday, as announced by the league office. She shares the honor with Nebraska's Alexis Markowski.
The Västerås, Sweden native captured her third Freshman of the Week honor after leading the Spartans to a win road victory over Wisconsin on Feb. 16. Ekh led the Spartans with 25 points against the Badgers. She now has four 20-point games on the season. She was just shy of matching her career high of 27 points set against Ohio State on Jan. 12. She also garnered the honor on Dec. 13. Ekh is now has the most 20+ points games by a Spartan freshman, since Nia Clouden, had three 20-point outings in 2018-19.
She is the second Spartan to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Week this season with guard DeeDee Hagemann also garnering the honor on Nov. 15. She is the third current MSU player to earn the award, as Clouden was named Freshman of the Week on Dec. 31, 2018. Overall, Michigan State has had players earn the accolade 12 times.
The only Spartan to have earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors more is All-American Aerial Powers who captured the accolade four times during the 2013-14 season.
Michigan State will be in action on Monday, Feb. 21 against Penn State at 6 p.m. The Spartans will conclude the regular season with a pair of games against ranked teams. MSU will take on No. 9/9 Michigan on Thursday, Feb. 24, before ending the regular season at home against No. 18/19 Ohio State on Senior Day on Sunday, Feb. 27.
