Iowa City, Iowa – Michigan State fell behind by 14 points at the half and could not recover as No. 25 Iowa beat the Spartans, 86-60, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena Tuesday night.

Junior forward Malik Hall scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Spartans, while fellow junior forward Julius Marble II nearly had a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.

- MSU opened the second half with two quick baskets and forced Iowa to call a timeout after a layup from redshirt senior Joey Hauser after the lead was cut to 46-36.
- Iowa pushed the lead back to 55-39 after a three-point play from Keegan Murray at the 15:35 mark, but a 3-pionter from junior guard Tyson Walker and a layup from Hall cut the lead to 55-44 with 13:54 left.
- Iowa's Jordan Bohannon hit back-to-back 3-pointers and triggered an 8-0 run as the Hawkeyes extended their lead to 63-44 on a basket from Murray.
- Walker hit another 3-pointer and senior forward Marcus Bingham Jr. made a second-chance layup to cut the deficit to 63-49 at the 11:30 mark, but back-to-back 3-pointers from Kris Murray made it a 20-point margin, 69-49, with 10:54 remaining.
- Austin Ash gave the Hawkeyes their largest lead of the night, 32 points, with 3:11 left in the game after making a pair of free throws.
- The Spartans trailed by 14 points, 46-32, at the break after Iowa raced to an early lead, shooting 50.0 percent from the floor (17-of-34) and connecting on seven shots from 3-point land, with Murray scoring 18 points.
- Tied at 4-4 after a jumper from freshman guard Max Christie, the Hawkeyes went on a 10-0 run and took a 14-4 lead on a layup from Tony Perkins at the 15:42 mark.
- The Spartans responded with an 8-0 run and cut the lead to 14-11 on a jumper from Marble at the 13:25 mark, but Iowa used a 10-2 burst to extend the lead to 24-13 on a layup from Joe Toussaint at the midpoint.
- The Hawkeyes had their biggest lead of the opening half, 15 points, on three occasions, the last on a basket from Murray with 5:37 left to make it 39-24.
