No. 13 Michigan State Falls at Rutgers

Piscataway, N.J. – Rutgers used an early run in the second half to break open a close game and No. 13. Michigan State could not overcome it en route to an 84-63 loss at Jersey Mike's Arena on Saturday afternoon in New Jersey.
Senior forward Gabe Brown (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) scored 20 points and five rebounds to lead the Spartans, matching his career high with six made 3-pointers, while senior forward Marcus Bingham Jr. (Grand Rapids, Mich./GR Catholic Central) had 12 points, four rebounds and two blocks.

- Michigan State trailed by just two points, 40-38, at halftime, but Rutgers scored the first seven points of the second half to take a 47-38 lead.
- The Spartans cut the lead to five points, 50-45, on a jumper from junior forward Julius Marble (Dallas, Texas/Dallas Jesuit) but the Scarlet Knights used an 8-2 run to take a 58-47 lead on a 3-pointer from Dean Reiber.
- Rutgers went into the break with a 40-38 lead after Brown hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cut the margin to two points.
- The Scarlet Knights led from the start and had an 8-point lead, 14-6, at the 14:37 mark after a layup from Paul Mulcahy, but the Spartans kept it close.
