Three Spartans Earn All-Big Ten Accolades

Senior guard Nia Clouden captures her fourth-straight All-Big Ten honor.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Three Michigan State women's basketball players were named to the All-Big Ten team Tuesday, as voted on by both the league's 14 coaches and the media, and announced by the conference office.
Senior guard Nia Clouden led the way being named first-team All-Big Ten by both coaches and the media. Freshmen Matilda Ekh and DeeDee Hagemann were both named honorable mention All-Big Ten and to the All-Freshman team. Ekh was honored by both coaches and media, while Hagemann was rewarded by the media.
Clouden, a guard from Owings Mills, Maryland captured All-Big Ten honors for the fourth-straight season after earning honorable mention honors as a freshman, second-team honors as a sophomore and first-team accolades as a junior and a senior. She becomes just the seventh Michigan State women's basketball player to earn All-Big Ten accolades all four years as a Spartan.
The senior ended the regular season fifth in the Big Ten in scoring, averaging 20.4 points per game. She is also ninth in the league in assists with 4.0 apg and ninth in field goal percentage, shooting 43.4 percent. Clouden is first in the B1G in free throw percentage (.888).
Ekh, a native of Vasteras, Sweden, has had a stellar freshman campaign, averaging 11.5 ppg. She is third in the Spartan freshman record book with 62 3-pointers made, and she stands eighth in the Big Ten in 3-point field goal percentage (.392).
Hagemann, who hails from Detroit, Michigan, is averaging 7.9 ppg this season. She is third in the MSU freshman record books with 135 assists. Her 5.4 assists per game average is fourth in the conference. She also stands 10th in the Big Ten in assist/turnover ratio (1.8).
This is the first time since the 2007-08 season that Michigan State has had two players named to the All-Freshman team. During the 2018-19 season, Clouden was also on the All-Freshman squad. She was the first Spartan to be named to the All-Freshman team since Aerial Powers during the 2013-14 season.
Senior forward Alisia Smith was named Michigan State's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
In head coach Suzy Merchant's 15 seasons, Michigan State has now earned 49 All-Big Ten selections. MSU has had at least two players earn All-Big Ten honors in 14 of the last 15 seasons.
Iowa's Caitlin Clark earned Big Ten Player of the Year by the both coaches and the media. Nebraska's Alexis Markowski captured Freshman of the Year by both the coaches and media. Maryland's Shyanne Sellars was named Sixth Player of the Year, while Northwestern's Veronica Burton was the Defensive Player of the Year for the third-straight season. Michigan's Kim Barnes Arico earned Coach of the Year honors by both the media and the coaches.
No. 8-seeded Michigan State will face No. 9-seeded Purdue in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday, March 3 at 11:30 a.m. at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
