Balanced Effort Leads Michigan State Past Wisconsin, 69-63

Indianapolis, Ind. – Senior forward Marcus Bingham Jr. had a double-double, tying his career-high with 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, and junior guard Tyson Walker scored nine of his 11 points in the final 1:56 as Michigan State's men's basketball team held on for a win over second-seeded Wisconsin, 69-63, in the Big Ten Quarterfinals on Friday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Bingham's double-double, his fourth of the season, led a balanced effort, as six players scored at least eight points. Senior forward Joey Hauser added nine points and four rebounds, freshman guard Max Christie had eight points, two rebounds and two blocks, junior forward Julius Marble II had eight points, four rebounds and two steals and sophomore guard A.J. Hoggard had eight points, four rebounds and four assists.
The win advances Michigan State to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the 16th time in program history.

- Michigan State led the entire first half, but Wisconsin tied the game in early stages of the second half as the teams went back and forth.
- The Badgers took a 40-36 lead on a 3-pointer from Brad Davison with 11:45 to play, but Bingham scored 11-straight points as the Spartans took a 47-42 lead with 7:57 to play.
- That was part an 18-7 run over five-plus minutes as MSU took a 54-47 lead with 6:07 left.
- Chucky Hepburn hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Badgers and tied the game at 58-all with 1:56 left.
- Walker took over after that as the junior guard hit a pair of jumpers, the second with 58 seconds left, to give MSU a 62-58 lead.
- Walker hit a free throw with 35 seconds left to make it 63-58 and Christie added two more to make it 65-60 with 21 seconds left.
- Hepburn hit another three to cut it to 65-63, but Walker hit four free throws in the final 15 seconds to seal the win for the Spartans.
- After a sluggish first half for both teams, MSU led 24-22 at the break and the teams went back and forth over the opening minutes of the second half with five ties and six lead changes.
- Michigan State went into the break with a 24-22 lead despite hitting just 33.3 percent of its shots from the field (7-of-21), but connected on 83.3 percent of its free throws (10-of-12).
- The Spartans took their biggest lead of the half, 14-6, on a hook shot from Julius Marble with 10:20 to play before intermission.
- MSU held Wisconsin to just three field goals over the opening 14 minutes and kept things close with 14 free throw attempts.
- A driving layup from Davis with 1:06 to play cut the MSU lead to two points, 24-22, at the break.
