
Multiple Spartans Set Personal Records on Second Day of the Raleigh Relays

Stephenson Wins Men’s Pole Vault Invitational, Sage Places Third in Men’s 400m
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Michigan State track and field program completed Day 2 of the Raleigh Relays on Friday night, as Trevor Stephenson's first-place finish in the men's pole vault invitational was one of seven podium finishes for the Spartans at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility.
MSU began the morning with Quiara Wheeler placing 15th in the women's discus throw at 44.21m, while Valadian Pallett was 20th with a 43.64m toss. Moving onto jumps events, Tylor Leedom placed seventh at the 2.00m in the men's high jump for the first MSU podium finish.
The Spartans continued to have success in the pole vault after Sophia Franklin's first-place finish in the women's pole vault invitational on Thursday, as Heath Baldwin took fourth in the men's pole vault open on Friday with a 4.57m vault. Stephenson then finished in first place in the men's pole vault invitational with an outdoor personal record of 5.41m, while Ryan Talbot placed seventh with a 4.91m top vault to match his own outdoor PR and reach the podium.
On the track, Jaiden Paris posted a personal record in the women's 100m hurdles, taking seventh place with a 13.59 time. Baldwin also had a good showing in the hurdles, finishing 13th overall in the men's 110m hurdles at 14.64.
Noah Sage had a fast start in his collegiate outdoor debut, running a 46.55 time in the men's 400m race to take seventh place.
Moving up to the women's 1500m race, MSU had a pair of top-15 times out of a pool of nearly 200 competitors, as Katie Osika placed 14th at a PR of 4:19.41, while Melanie Helder was right behind her in 15th place with a 4:19.76 PR time. Lauren Freeland also tallied a PR with a 26th-place finish at 4:22.47.
The final podium finish for the Spartans came in the Women's 3000m Steeplechase, as Kate Stewart-Barnett used a 10:11.39 time to take fifth place.
Michigan State concludes the opening weekend of its outdoor season on Saturday, March 26 with the final day of the Raleigh Relays.
