EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State rowing is back on the water this weekend for the team's first races of the spring season. The Spartans will race back-to-back days on the Cooper River, with both regattas taking place in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
On Saturday, March 26, MSU will race as part of the Ivy-Big Ten Double Dual hosted by Yale. The day begins with races against Harvard-Radcliffe in the morning and will wrap with an afternoon session with Yale beginning at noon.
Ivy/Big Ten Dual results will be posted on msuspartans.com and on row2k.com.
Doc Hosea Invite results will be posted on msuspartans.com and on regattaworks.com
Sunday the Green & White will compete in the annual Doc Hosea Invite hosted by Bucknell. Heats will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the three fastest times from each boat advancing to the Grand Final, followed by the Petite Final and Third Level final for the remaining boat times in order. A total of 18 teams will make an appearance at the regatta, with Rutgers being the sole representative from the Big Ten alongside Michigan State.
The Spartans will suit up to race their First and Second Varsity Eight boats as well as their Varsity Four boat on both days.
"Our returning roster from last year has been joined by a great group of experienced freshmen and novice athletes," Head Coach Kim Chavers said. "We've spent the winter focused on the process of training for our goals and improvement as a collective team, and are excited to demonstrate these improvements as we get back to racing. We are also looking forward to racing with the Ivy League after a two-year hiatus and seeing many east coast programs after a limited travel season last spring."
After the spring 2020 season being canceled, MSU raced in six events last spring, including the Big Ten Invitational and the conference championships in May. The Spartans competed in several exhibition races this past fall and hosted the Head of the Grand Regatta on Oct. 16. The team was also given the opportunity to spend some time on the water when they traveled to Oak Ridge, Tennessee over spring break for team training.
Complete results from Saturday and Sunday's races will be posted on msuspartans.com and Row2k.com. The full schedule of events as well as results for the Doc Hosea Invite can be found at regattaworks.com.
