"We're looking forward to hosting the Spartan Invite again," said Director of Track and Field Lisa Breznau. Â
Beginning at noon on Friday with the pole vault, the meet will include the hammer throw, javelin throw and triple jump on the first day of competition. Saturday's events begin with the discus throw at 10 a.m., followed by the shot put, with the high jump and long jump kicking off at noon. The running events on Saturday are set for an 11 a.m. start with the 1500m unseeded sections, while the meet will conclude with the 4x400m relays at 5:10 p.m. Senior Day ceremonies will take place at 1 p.m. at Ralph Young Field.

The Spartans opened the outdoor season last week at the Raleigh Relays, as John Petruno posted a school-record time of 3:40.43 in the men's 1,500m to finish in third place. The meet also saw pole vaulters Sophia Franklin and Trevor Stephenson win the women's and men's pole vault invitationals, respectively, as Stephenson posted a personal-record 5.41m vault to win his event. Additionally, Noah Sage posted a 46.55 time in the men's 400m race to take third in his collegiate outdoor debut, while Terrence Muex opened his first outdoor campaign by running a 21.11 to take second place in the men's 200m, and Olivia Lopez places third in the women's long jump with personal-record 5.87m leap.
Â
Petruno's 3:40.43 time in the men's 1,500m currently ranks second in the NCAA, while Kate Stewart-Barnett's 10:11.39 time in the women's 3,000m steeplechase puts the Spartan rookie fourth in the nation. For Stephenson, his 5.41m vault is the seventh highest in the country so far this outdoor season, and Makayla Perez's 33:36.86 time in the women's 10,000m stands as the seventh fastest in the NCAA entering the weekend.
Â
The Spartan Invite will also mark the 2022 outdoor season debut of Morgan Beadlescomb in the men's 1,500m race, who is coming off a silver-medal finish in the men's mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships in early March.
2019's edition of the Spartan Invite was a memorable meet, as Franklin's vault of 4.37m in the women's pole vault set the current MSU outdoor record, while Lopez won the women's long jump with a season-best 5.58m.
Â
Following the Spartan Invite, Michigan State will send multi-event athletes to the Jim Click Shootout at the University of Arizona on April 7-8, while Quiara Wheeler will compete at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Miami, Fla. On April 8-9.
