East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State men's basketball senior forward Gabe Brown was selected to the All-Big Ten Conference Third Team by the coaches and was an honorable mention selection by the media, the league office announced on Tuesday, March 8.
Brown was one of three MSU players to earn all-conference honors, as junior forward Malik Hall was an honorable mention selection by the coaches and guard Max Christie was selected to the All-Freshman team by the coaches.
"I'm happy for all three of our players," MSU Head Coach Tom Izzo said. "It's great any time that you get a chance to get recognized as an all-league player. For Gabe, it's the culmination of all of the hard work he's put in over the last three years and I'm really, really happy for him.
"It's great to see Malik get an All-Big Ten honor because he really has been a big force for us at times this year. We put a lot of pressure on Max this year and he really stood up to that test and has shown to be one of the really good young players in our league."
Brown, a co-captain, was the only player to start all 31 games this year for the Spartans and leads the team in scoring with 11.5 points per game, while adding 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He has connected on a team-high 61 3-pointers and leads the team in free throw percentage, connecting on 91.8 percent of his shots (56-of-61). He ranks 11th in the Big Ten in 3-point field goals made per game (1.97).
Hall, also a co-captain, is second on the team in scoring with 9.6 points per game and third on the team with 4.7 rebounds, while adding 1.1 assists. He has connected on 53.8 percent of his shots from the field (112-of-208), including 48.3 percent of his 3-point attempts (28-of-58).
Christie, who started 30 of 30 games played, finished the regular season third on the team in scoring with 9.3 points per game, while adding 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists. The freshman, who scored in double figures 11 times this year, was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week five times this season.
Michigan State finished the regular season with a 20-11 overall record, including an 11-9 mark in the Big Ten Conference.
The Spartans play Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday, March 10 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis (6:30 p.m., BTN).
