Women’s Tennis Unable to Overcome No. 8 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Michigan State women's tennis team concluded its road trip on Sunday afternoon, suffering a 4-0 loss to No. 8 Ohio State at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
Sunday's contest moved the Buckeyes to 12-4 on the season and 5-0 in the Big Ten, while the Spartans dropped to 9-8 overall and 1-5 in league play.
The No. 3 doubles court was the first to finish, as Irina Cantos Siemers partnered with Lucia Marzal to earn a 6-1 win over senior Nicole Stephens and junior Tia Mukherjee.
OSU clinched the doubles point on the second court, as Sydni Ratliff and Kathleen Jones took a 6-3 match over sophomore Ayshe Can and freshman Charlotte Gisclon, leaving the top doubles contest to go unfinished.
Isabelle Boulais, ranked 26th in the country, then got the opening victory in singles competition on the No. 1 court against graduate Mary Lewis in a 6-2, 6-3 final.
The eighth-ranked Cantos Siemers then knocked off senior Maja Pietrowicz in the No. 3 spot by a 6-4, 6-1 score, putting Ohio State up 3-0.
Lining up as the No. 4 singles players, the 60th-ranked Ratliff closed out the afternoon when she secured a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Stephens, as the final three singles contests would be abandoned.
Ohio State now holds a 40-14 edge over MSU in the all-time series.
Michigan State will now return home for an April 9 rivalry match against No. 19 Michigan at 3 p.m.
