Spartan Rowers Wrap up Racing at Dale England Cup

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Michigan State rowing completed its day of racing at the Dale England Cup hosted by Indiana on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans competed alongside the Hoosiers, Notre Dame and Clemson in a series of 2,000-meter races at Lake Lemon in Bloomington.Â
The varsity four, second varsity eight and varsity eight races were all worth a set amount of points based on each crew's finish in the race. The team that earned the most overall total points was named the winner of the Dale England Cup trophy at the conclusion of the regatta. Host Indiana came in first place with a total of 72 points, having swept the day with wins in the varsity four and first and second varsity eight races. Clemson was in second place with 51 points, while Notre Dame had 33 and the Spartans totaled 24.Â
Michigan State started out the day with a second-place finish in a novice eight dual with the Hoosiers, finishing in 7:22.4 less than a second behind Indiana's crew. The Spartans took third in the next two races, ahead of Notre Dame in the third varsity eight race (7:04.8) and Clemson in the second varsity four race (7:50.8). The best showing of the day for the Green & White was in the varsity four race, which MSU earned a second-place finish in 7:30.6, four seconds ahead of third-place Clemson and six seconds ahead of Notre Dame. The Spartans wrapped up the day with a 6:56.5 time in the second varsity eight race and a 6:57.1 for the varsity eight boat.Â
MSU is back in action at the Big Ten Championships on Sunday, May 15. Racing takes place in Indianapolis, Indiana at Eagle Creek Park.
