EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State rowing is set for a busy weekend with their first conference races of the season at the Ohio State Regatta on Saturday, April 9. The Regatta features a full slate of races against host Ohio State, fellow B1G opponent Indiana, Oklahoma and Notre Dame beginning at 9 a.m. at the Griggs Reservoir Park in Columbus.Â
The morning schedule will begin with a mix of novice and varsity eight boats in a race against Indiana and the Buckeyes. The morning session wraps at 11 a.m. and racing will pick back up at 1 p.m. with races among the same boats in order with different opponents.Â
"After last week's success at Eastern Michigan, we are looking forward to this weekend and hoping to carry the momentum into these races," head coach Kim Chavers commented. "It will also be our first conference races, so we're looking forward to seeing how we stack up against Big Ten opponents on the water."
Each of MSU's opponents this weekend are ranked or sit on the bubble. Ohio State is ranked No. 9 in the Pocock CRCAÂ rankings, while Indiana rounds out the poll No. 20. Notre Dame and Oklahoma are both receiving votes in the poll.Â
Last weekend, the Spartans posted a complete sweep of Eastern Michigan in a dual race in Ypsilanti. Four of the five races for MSU were won by large open-water margins, with the novice eight crew besting Eastern Michigan by more than a minute. The varsity eight race ended in a victory for the Green & White by 16 seconds as the crew crossed the finish line at 7:09.66. Both of MSU's varsity four boats finished over 15 seconds ahead of the Eagles, with times of 8:16.42 and 8:35.52. The third varsity eight crew finished in 7:43.82, 49 seconds ahead of their opponents.Â
Complete results of tomorrow's races will be posted to row2k.com and also periodically on host Ohio State's website (ohiostatebuckeyes.com) and team twitter account at the conclusion of each race (@OhioStateWROW).Â
The race will also be broadcast on Big Ten Plus, available to stream for a fee. Click HEREÂ for the race stream.Â
